Hearts

Hearts are what you spend to start levels on the solo map, and nothing else. You can hold up to 3.

When a heart is spent

A heart goes when you start a level on the solo map, not on each wrong answer. If you leave and resume the same game, you don't pay a second time.

Some starts are free:

• the first 10 levels of the map;
• a level where you already have 2 stars is replayed for free, however you started the run that earned them. The replay doesn't give you a heart back, though.

These never cost a heart: the Daily Challenge, rooms with friends, Quick Game, competitive mode, and a quiz you play on your own off the map (a quiz that isn't part of the chapter path). Such a game earns no stars, no coins and no progress on the map.

Get a heart back by playing well

The first time you finish a level with 2 stars or more, the heart you spent on that run is given back. This happens once per level. If you already have 3 hearts at that point, it isn't lost: it goes into your Reserve.

Automatic refill

As long as you're below 3 hearts, you get one back every 3 hours. The "Next heart in" countdown shows in the hearts panel.

When you run out

The "Out of Hearts!" window offers, depending on your situation:

• Refill 5 hearts for 100 coins. Anything above 3 hearts goes into your Reserve.
• Use stored hearts: draw from your reserve, free of charge.
• Watch an ad (full refill), in the Android or iPhone app: one video brings all your hearts back. You need to wait a little between two ads, and the number of ads per day is limited.
• Buy Hearts: opens the Heart Shop.
• Try Premium (unlimited hearts): with Premium you stop counting hearts.

Your progress is saved: you can also simply wait for the refill.

Second chance

If you play a real game through to the end without earning a star and you have no hearts left, you can retry that same level once for free within 15 minutes. The "Second chance granted!" message confirms it.

What about offline?

Without a connection, refills (coins, reserve, ads) aren't available: reconnect to use them.
