1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device (computer, tablet, smartphone) when you visit a website. It lets the site remember information about your browsing (for example your login session or your display preferences) for a limited time. "First-party" cookies are set by the site you are visiting; "third-party" cookies are set by other services embedded in the page. Similar technologies (browser local storage) can serve comparable purposes; this page covers them as well.

2. The cookies we use

SparkleQuiz deliberately keeps cookie usage to the strict minimum:

Essential cookies (exempt from consent): they make the service work at all: keeping your session alive while you are signed in, securing forms (CSRF protection), technical request handling. Without them, you could not stay logged in or play a game. They are set by sparklequiz.fr and expire at the end of your session or after a short period.
Preferences: your theme choice (light/dark), language and certain comfort settings are stored locally on your device so you do not have to select them again on every visit.
Payment: when you subscribe to Premium on the web, our payment provider Stripe may set cookies required to secure the transaction and prevent fraud, only on payment pages.
Consent storage: when you make a choice through the consent banner, that choice is itself stored (for a maximum of six months for a refusal and thirteen months for an acceptance, in line with the French CNIL's recommendations) so that you are not asked again on every page.

3. Advertising and analytics

To date, SparkleQuiz sets no advertising cookies and no third-party analytics trackers without your agreement. If advertising spaces are enabled on the web version, the associated cookies will only be set after your explicit consent, collected through a consent-management platform compliant with the GDPR and the CNIL guidelines. You will then be able to withdraw that consent at any time, as easily as you gave it.

4. Managing cookies

You stay in control at several levels:

Through the consent banner: for cookies subject to consent, your choice can be changed at any time from the dedicated link in the footer.
Through your browser: all modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) let you view, delete or block cookies, globally or per site, from their privacy settings. Note that blocking essential cookies will prevent you from signing in to your account.
On mobile: the SparkleQuiz app does not use browsing cookies; preferences are stored locally by the app.
